Dear Sangha,
I have been asked to share my understanding of the Anapanasati Sutta, the Sutra on the Full Awareness of Breathing, also known as the 16 Breathing Practices handed down to us by the Buddha. When Thich Nhat Hanh (Thay) was a young practitioner, around 19, after a few years of practicing as a Novice, he discovered the 16 breathing practices and he says he was the happiest monk in the world. I have been to retreats where he devoted 2 days out of 5 talking about it. That’s 40% of his Dharma Talks. Why? Because it is so powerful. It is the freeway to enlightenment, the superhighway to Nirvana. I’ll lay it out for you the way Thay has done it for me so you can learn about it, memorize it and practice it, the 3 necessary things to be able to realize the fruit of our practice. Then we will experience it together. I look forward to being with you.
